Community Newsletter | November 3rd, 2025
Dear Northside Neighbors, Partners, & Community,
We’re taking a moment to reflect on an October filled with connection, learning, and celebration across the Northside. From honoring our elders to empowering families with vital resources, last month reminded us of the power of community coming together with purpose. And as we move into November, we’re continuing that energy with new opportunities for growth, support, and engagement.
On October 9th, we hosted Northside Senior Night, a warm and joy-filled evening dedicated to celebrating our neighborhood’s elders. Guests enjoyed delicious food from Josie’s Southern Comfort, laughter over games, and a bit of fall creativity with pumpkin painting and carving. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it a memorable night of connection and appreciation.
The Tax Foreclosure Resource Fair on October 14th, made possible in partnership with the Kalamazoo County Office of the Treasurer, brought together local partners and residents to focus on housing stability and homeownership. Attendees connected with experts, learned about foreclosure prevention, and discovered programs that support families in keeping and maintaining their homes. We’re deeply grateful to our partner organizations for their collaboration on this impactful event.
On October 16th, we held an inspiring Fireside Chat with Daniel Henry, a proud Northside native and Patent Prosecution Attorney at Marshall Gerstein & Borun LLP. Through open conversation, Daniel shared his story of perseverance, mental health awareness, and the power of mentorship. His journey served as a reminder of the promise that lives within every member of our community. Special thanks to Marshall Gerstein & Borun LLP for sponsoring this event.
Later in the month, NACD partnered with the Black Arts & Cultural Center and Advia Credit Union to host Let’s Talk Money, an open mic night centered on financial empowerment. Neighbors came out, asked questions, and learned practical strategies for credit building, budgeting, and homeownership, all while enjoying an atmosphere of encouragement and community support.
October also marked an exciting moment of growth for NACD as we welcomed Kelly Reynolds as our new Operations Director. Kelly brings a background in finance, leadership, and community engagement, and we’re thrilled to have her join the team to help advance NACD’s mission and impact across the Northside.
Along with growing our team, we’ve also expanded our portfolio of properties. NACD recently purchased the former New Genesis Learning Center building at 1340 Cobb Avenue, a property that has long stood vacant but holds deep history in our neighborhood. This acquisition represents an important investment in the Northside’s future, reflecting NACD’s ongoing commitment to neighborhood revitalization and opportunity. We’re excited about the possibilities this space holds for our residents and partners!

We’re also proud to announce a new partnership with the American Heart Association to host a Community Blood Pressure Hub right here at NACD. This free, drop-in resource is open to all residents and offers an easy way to get your blood pressure checked, learn about heart health, and take simple steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
We also want to acknowledge an important change impacting many families: SNAP benefits are being delayed beginning this month.
