KALAMAZOO, MI - The Northside Association for Community Development (NACD) is proud to announce its acquisition of the former New Genesis Learning Center, located at 1340 Cobb Avenue in Kalamazoo. The building, which had been vacant for several years, was purchased from Stones Church and marks an exciting step forward in NACD’s ongoing efforts to invest in and strengthen the Northside community.
This property once served as a childcare and preschool facility and has long been part of the neighborhood’s fabric. NACD’s purchase ensures that this important site will once again become a space rooted in purpose, care, and opportunity for residents.
“We’re thrilled to bring new life to a space that has served so many families over the years,” said Jonathan Yarbrough, Executive Director of NACD. “This purchase reflects NACD’s deep commitment to ensuring that the Northside remains a place of opportunity, growth, and pride for everyone who calls it home.”
NACD Board President, Raymond Ryan, added, “The Northside’s strength has always come from the people and partnerships that move it forward. This acquisition is another example of what’s possible when we work together to invest in our community’s future.”
Joel Brooks, Pastor of Stones Church, expressed enthusiasm for NACD’s role in carrying the building’s legacy forward. “We’re grateful to see this property in NACD’s hands,” said Brooks. “The organization’s dedication to community impact and neighborhood development ensures that the space will continue to serve the Northside in meaningful ways.”
Originally built in 1950, the building sits on a 5.3-acre parcel with approximately 31,000 square feet of space. Its purchase adds another important property to NACD’s growing footprint on the Northside while advancing its mission to advocate and promote a healthier environment, job creation, financial independence, safety, and neighborhood revitalization.
