Northside Association for Community Development Launches Northside Home Repair Program Pilot
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 15th, 2026
The Northside Association for Community Development (NACD) is launching the Northside Home Repair Program Pilot, a new Housing & Neighborhood Stabilization Initiative designed to help Northside homeowners make critical repairs and remain safely in their homes.
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Northside Association for Community Development (NACD) is proud to announce the launch of the Northside Home Repair Program Pilot, a new Housing & Neighborhood Stabilization Initiative designed to help Northside homeowners make critical repairs and remain safely in their homes. Applications will open on January 4th, 2027.
NACD has allocated funds to establish the program, which will begin with a focused, one-year pilot. By starting with a limited number of homeowners and repair types, NACD aims to build a strong and sustainable program that can grow responsibly over time.
“Our homes and our neighbors are the foundation of this neighborhood,” said Jonathan Yarbrough, Executive Director of NACD. “This pilot is about serving homeowners well, learning from the process, and creating something that will benefit the Northside now and for years to come.”
How the Pilot Works
The pilot will offer two application cycles each year. In its first year, the program covers three types of repairs:
Windows: repair or replacement of damaged or non-functional windows
Exterior doors and door frames: repair or replacement, including entry doors
Garage doors: repair or replacement of damaged or non-functional garage doors
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18, live in the Northside boundaries, own and live in the home as their primary residence, be listed on the deed or acceptable ownership documentation, and need a repair that falls within one of the three pilot categories. NACD will provide the materials needed once the assessment process is done. NACD will review and approve the project, as well as hire the contractor before any work begins. NACD will pay approved contractors directly.
Submitting an application does not guarantee selection or funding. NACD retains full discretion to determine whether a repair is necessary, such as whether it qualifies as a critical repair, and the program does not guarantee that all windows and doors will be replaced.
“NACD’s work has always been built on people helping people and neighbors supporting one another,” said Raymond Ryan, NACD Board President. “This program is a practical step toward protecting our neighborhood's homes.”
Contractors Invited to Participate
NACD is also inviting interested contractors to submit their information to be considered for Home Repair Program projects. Contractors can apply at the following link.
Looking Ahead
NACD will use the pilot year to evaluate the application process, project costs, and community impact, and may expand the program to additional types of repairs in the future. The organization will continue to seek support from donors, sponsors, foundations, and community partners to help the program grow.
